A water main break has occurred on NC16 Business just north of NC73 around 9:00 AM on Sunday morning. Crews are on site assessing the situation and working to isolate the water outage to as small an area as possible.
Due to the waterline being located under NC16 Business in this area motorists are encouraged to avoid this portion of NC16 Business due to work in the roadway and potential lane and/or road closures. As the extent of the outage is more understood staff will work to update this messaging.
**Update: 3:15PM Sunday, October 20 **
Public Utility crews have restored water service to the area. Due to damag to the roadway the detour will remain in place until pavement repairs can be completed. Repairs are expected to begin on Monday morning.
