Restaurant Voucher Nutrition Program
Updates to Nutrition Voucher Program in response to COVID-19
As of March 17, 2020, all Nutrition Voucher restaurants have transitioned to to-go/carry out only for all meals. All clients are being asked to call in and place their orders for pick up. The phone numbers for each restaurant are listed below. What carry out looks like at each restaurant may be different. It is drive thru/ drive up service at Captain Petes, Fatz and Sports Page. At Italianno's clients are being asked to go to the front door to pick up their order, and lastly at Atrium Health clients are being asked to enter through the front hospital doors, use hand sanitizer and then proceed to the cafeteria to pick up their meals- Atrium Health is limiting the cafeteria to only 10 customers at a time for meal pick up.
At this time the monthly Nutrition and Wellness meetings have been suspended and voucher usage is not being closely monitored until further notice.
Lincoln County was the North Carolina "pilot program" for this innovative nutrition program which provides healthy meals to qualifying seniors.
Seniors become members of the "Health and Wellness Club" which enables them to receive twelve restaurant vouchers per month to be used at the five contracted restaurant sites. Balanced meals of smaller proportions are developed by the senior services nutrition coordinator and prepared at the restaurants.
The Health and Wellness Club is more than a meal, in that it offers participants healthy meals, educational meetings on health related issues, and promotes socialization and independent living.
Funding is limited and clients are added to program based on level of need.
