The District sponsors an essay contest each year for the sixth grade students. The essay is a 300 to 500 word essay on a specific title. The title is picked by the N.C. Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts and changes each year. The purpose of the essay contest is to help in educating students on the importance of our natural resources and ways to protect them.
The contest information is sent to sixth grade teachers in October. Teachers will pick a class winner and these winners will receive a trophy. One essay per school is submitted to the District office. The prizes for the County winners are as follows: 1st place - $100, 2nd place - $50, 3rd place - $30 and two honorable mentions - $20 each. For more information on the contest, contact the District office.
