Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Lincoln County has joined a three county regional initiative with Gaston and Cleveland Counties, with the purpose to plan and prepare the appropriate actions to take before a disaster strikes. As of now, every county in the state has had individual Hazard Mitigation Plans (as required by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and the North Carolina Emergency Management Act) in order to receive funding for disaster relief. However, the state has asked counties in the same region with similar vulnerabilities to consolidate their efforts into a regional plan.
The regional plan will focus on: prevention, property protection, natural resource protection, structural projects, emergency services, and public education & awareness. The key objectives are: to merge the three County plans into one regional plan, update the existing plans, increase public awareness, maintain grant eligibility for participating jurisdictions, and maintain compliance with both state and federal requirements.
The draft of the plan has been approved by the steering committee and adoption throughout the three county region and the associated municipalities is well underway.
